Buffalo and Aurora, NY

a wall in buffalo. i would like to know more of the history of the area. what i have learned about is the once booming and rising riches in the area due to the canal that was built. this part of the history is up on plaques around the city, telling passers by about the riches that once flourished. the plaques are also sure to tell you about the indigenous who used to live here. the plaques do not tell you about how the here and now came to be. they don't tell you the conquest of natives. they don't tell you the racism or the white flight. so many houses are on a list to be torn down now, because poverty stricken people cannot afford to rebuild the city from their own pockets. capitalism and racism create such devistation. obviously. buildings just abandoned. whole neighborhoods. so many people left behind.
on another note, we found the church that ani difranco and righteous babe records bought and revamped. it's one of the very many churches that have been abandoned.
here is me on the steps! i have a thing for doors.
Aurora, NY is where Shannon is currently living and so we went to visit her :) here is Cathy trying on some pants she spotted at a dock.
here is Cathy again on a painted rock in front of one of the many acres of corn. this corn is brown top corn, which is grown to feed cows. which is most of the corn that i saw. and there is a LOT of corn in this area. it is grown to feed cows which will either be eaten or milked. so much energy waisted.
here is Shannon and Bear! They are both so cute. what a pretty picture :)
